WELCOME

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue..."

― Rainer Maria Rilke

Elliot Huemann, LMHC, LPC
Therapist & Supervisor

Hi, I'm glad you're here!

If you're anything like me when I started my own therapy/meaning journey, you have a lot of questions. I love questions. I believe they are what draw us deeper into life and call us to wonder about who we are becoming. I see therapy as an opportunity to build a supportive relationship and explore these questions together.

About Me:

  • My name is Elliot and I am currently working with clients in Washington and Minnesota.

  • I help people who feel stuck, anxious, and disconnected from themselves find meaning, develop their identity, and become who they want to be.

  • I work with people carrying the pain and weight of what happened to them in the past (trauma) and help them find new hope, freedom, and connection with their bodies.

  • I studied counseling at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. While there, I focused my research on trauma, spirituality, identity development, and sexuality.

  • My approach to therapy is holistic, meaning that beyond traditional talk therapy I work with breath work and body-centered approaches to healing.

  • In my free time, I love gardening, cooking, playing with my dog, and reading a good book.

My thoughts on therapy:

When we boil it down, therapy is all about relationship, and relationships are what form the story of our lives. Some of these relationships are immediate: your relationship with yourself, with myself as your therapist, and with those around you on a daily basis. Others are past relationships, carried in the memories, wounds, and feelings formed in your early life. As we get to know each other and build trust, we will explore these relationships and build new ones that encourage you towards a life of balance, security, and meaning.

Recent scientific breakthroughs help us understand that who we are has to do with our bodies, brains, and minds working together. In my trauma-informed approach to therapy, we will pay mindful attention to these parts of who you are to encourage change, healing, and growth.

Some of the questions I work with most include:

  • Gay/Bi + Identity and Sexuality

    • Exploring questions of sexuality (ie. bi/gay questions)

    • Navigating coming out process and integrating of self identity (Level II Sensorimotor Psychotherapy)

    • Exploring and redefining self identity around masculinity

    • Navigating tensions fitting into LGBTQ+ communities

  • Relationships

    • Exploring wants, needs, and desires in relationship (Level I - Emotion Focused Therapy)

    • Sex and connection

    • Grieving/processing a breakup and how to move forward

    • Living into your identity rather than reacting to it

  • Anxiety

    • Mind/body connection and healing - Mindfulness Informed Professional

    • Mindful responses to stress, panic, and trauma (Level I Sensorimotor Psychotherapy)

    • Exploring the roots of anxiety

  • Spirituality/meaning

    • Spiritual/religious trauma
    • Struggling with disillusionment/questions about faith
    • Walking through a faith transition
    • Supporting grieving processes

I have worked with a wide range of clients who vary greatly from each other, all in different places with their mental health. What they shared in common was the awareness of a concern and the willingness to explore where their questions would take them.
